Why do I need a garden designer to choose my plants?

Choosing the plants is not simply a question of going to the local garden centre or nursery and filling up a trolley.  Consideration needs to be made on the following points:

Relating the garden to its surroundings

Providing structure and enclosure

Outline shape of chosen plants

The style of garden

The soil type

The climate

Changing seasons and how the garden will mature

Non-visual qualities of plants: scent, sound and tactile appeal

Enhancing hard-landscape features

Providing a colour palette
